    YOUR PROJECT

Give your project a clear, descriptive title.
Project category — select which crime prevention approaches are being applied * Required
    Response required.Response required.
Large grants are focused on situational crime prevention, social and community crime prevention, developmental and early intervention, and criminal justice or regulatory approaches – projects with a clear, evidence-based approach and measurable impact.

A note on social and community campaigns

Social and community prevention campaigns can sometimes have unintended or adverse effects if messaging and activities are not carefully considered. We'll ask you to demonstrate that your approach and messaging are thought-through and evidence-based (see Section 5).

    THE PROBLEM YOU'RE SOLVING

This section helps us understand the community safety issue you have identified and gives us insight into your story. Strong applications will clearly describe the issue, back it with evidence, and explain why your community needs this project now.

Describe the specific issue in your community. What is happening, where, and who is affected? e.g. We have seen an increase in theft and anti-social behaviour in the precinct over the past 12 months impacting local usage of the community centre
Tell us about your evidence. This could be crime statistics, community surveys, attendance records, informal focus groups, analysis of member feedback, residents' experiences, or other local insight. e.g. We took a show of hands at our club AGM…ran informal focus groups with our members…
We want to understand the community voice behind your application, and evidence of genuine consultation. e.g. Community centre visitors and local small business owners raised this issue at our community meeting. We have since consulted with them to co-design the proposed solution…

    YOUR SOLUTION

This section is assessed against our four key principles: Alignment, Evidence, Innovation, and Broad Community Benefit. Be as specific as possible.

What will you actually do with the grant funding? Outline the key activities and deliverables. e.g. We will deliver a 12-month mentoring and diversion program for young people identified as at risk, in partnership with the local youth service…
Referring to the Program Fact Sheet, nominate which of the four main crime prevention approaches you are using. Provide evidence including data, case studies or expert input that supports your approach. e.g. The project applies a developmental crime prevention approach. Research from the Australian Institute of Criminology shows structured mentoring programs reduce reoffending by up to X%…

    Evidence-based messaging matters

Social and community crime prevention campaigns can sometimes have unintended or adverse effects if messaging is not carefully considered.

Applicants proposing a public campaign, education initiative or community messaging are kindly asked to explain the evidence base for their approach and how the messaging has been tested or reviewed (e.g. with a communications professional, subject matter expert, or the affected community).

Tell us what makes your project stand out — this could be a novel technology, a new partnership, or a fresh take on an existing idea. e.g. We are applying a new context, a new partnership, applying a tried and tested approach to a new audience, or a fresh method of delivery
Describe the reach of your project — how many people, which groups, and over what timeframe. e.g. An estimated 20 young people engaged directly through the program and their family.
If your project involves the collection, use, disclosure or storage of personal information (including through technologies such as CCTV, safety apps, community surveys or similar initiatives), explain what steps you will take to protect that information and comply with applicable privacy laws.
Describe your organisation's experience delivering projects of a similar size and/or nature, and any measures in place to support successful delivery.

    IMPACT & MEASUREMENT

What outcomes or indicators will you track to demonstrate the project has worked? Use measurable, evidence-based indicators where possible. e.g. A 20% reduction in reported theft from motor vehicle incidents in the area within 12 months; community survey showing improved perceptions of safety…
Provide a brief overview of key milestones. e.g. Month 1-2: procurement and approvals / Month 3-4: installation / Month 5-6: community launch and evaluation…
How do you hope to sustain the project or its benefits beyond the initial funding? e.g. Ongoing delivery will be funded through an existing program budget and a new partnership with…

What we'll ask for in your report-back

A brief update every six months (in line with the Advisory Group's review cycle) until your project is complete, plus a short final report outlining what the project has achieved in a couple of sentences and progress against your milestones above is enough. This isn't a formal evaluation.

Quantitative data against your nominated success measures, where available.

A short financial acquittal of how the grant funds were spent.

Supporting evidence such as photos, case studies or participant feedback.

    YOUR STORY

Successful projects may be featured in Bunnings' communications to celebrate community impact. This section is optional but helps us understand the human story behind your project.

Imagine explaining it to a friend – what's the heart of the story? e.g. For years, residents avoided the precinct after dark. This project is about giving our community back a part of their neighbourhood they stopped using.
Would your organisation be willing to be featured in Bunnings communications if your application is successful? * Required
